Literacy

Our literacy story for this week is called Helping Out. We are learning about ways we can help out at home. We will be writing a "how to" paragraph explaining the steps of how to do something. For example, how to brush your teeth, feed the dog, feed the fish, water the plants, plant flowers, make your bed, serve yourself cereal, etc. I was surprised to hear how many kids don't have chores at home! For Wednesday night, please talk with your child about what chores they are able to do at home and how they are helpful. We are learning about how chores at home not only help out the family, but also teach us how to be responsible. At my house we use a chore chart where my kids earn points for the chores they do. Each chore is worth 10 cents, 20 cents, or 25 cents. We add up the total at the end of the week, and they receive their payment. It works well for us. What works for you? What chores do your kids have at home and how are they rewarded? Each parent/child who comments will receive a horseshoe for participating!

  2. Hi Mrs. Montes, I just received your blog post now, 24 hrs later... The kids have random chores, but I like your idea about 10/20/25 cents & adding them up at the end of the week... Hope Jack can still get a horseshoe for me posting now... Have a great day : )... JM4's mom~

  4. My mom makes me make my bed and clean up the messes that I make. She makes me do my homework early and after that she makes me read. If I have time she will let me go out and play. These aren't chores, but its our daily routine. Once a month my mom pays me an allowance for following our routine.

  7. Amelia brought home this idea and I like it! Working on a chart today.

Mrs. Montes, could I ask a small favor? I'm having difficulty seeing the black against maroon font (really bad vision!) any chance you might change the color to a bit more friendly easier on the eye to see color?

    Gracias!
